To continue to ensure the health and safety of clients and staff within the current public health guidance, virtual consultations, socially distanced and virtual exercise group classes and in-person appointments are offered in a private and bright clinic space.
Before your initial appointment, you'll be provided with a detailed health history and treatment goal questionnaire. Please dress comfortably for this session as it will include a thorough evaluation of physical function, capacity, posture, and movement quality. This includes tests focusing on flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance. Care recommendations and a detailed treatment plan will be discussed, developed, and provided.
All exercise prescriptions are developed, building on unique health strengths and challenges toward optimal outcomes. Regardless of your circumstances, promoting health and the prevention of injury and illness is paramount. Areas of focus frequently include nutrition, recreational and professional athletics, occupational stressors, limitations in mobility, strength, flexibility, balance, and encompassing the natural ageing processes.
Collaborating with your primary physician, specialized exercise prescriptions and health status metrics are utilized to improve specific diagnosed chronic conditions.
Exercise prescriptions are established following a comprehensive assessment and analysis of body movement and any compensatory accommodation patterns occurring due to your injuries. A program will be developed using corrective exercises to improve body mechanics and restore mobility and strength. Active rehabilitation treatments may include a dynamic range of motion, soft tissue release, light activation movements, core stability, balance, and postural retraining. An accompanying home exercise component should be expected.
Exercise prescription services targeting balance and functional movement are an integral element of all kinesiology services across the lifespan. Everyday experiences of the normal ageing process include joint stiffness, decreased muscle mass, and related loss of strength and endurance. In addition, bone density loss as well as postural and gait changes can affect balance. Exercise prescriptions tailored to individual needs focus on weight-bearing exercises to build and preserve bone density, posture awareness, resistance training, and aerobic physical activity.
When elective surgical procedures are anticipated, the waitlist period provides a unique opportunity for pre-surgical assessment of your baseline capacity. For standard orthopedic procedures (hip, knee, foot, and ankle), functional mobility, strength, balance, and range of motion metrics are key. In addition, an introductory pre-operative consultation and surgical consent process with your surgeon provides an opportunity to understand the standard recovery care pathway and timeline. This service offers exercise prescription direction for prehab preconditioning and education sessions followed by a 12-week post-operative exercise prescription.
Staying active and engaging in an individualized rehabilitation and conditioning program throughout cancer care can optimize general health, energy, resilience, and significantly enhance long-term health outcomes. Exercise prescriptions improve surgical recovery, tolerance to chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. In addition, this critical service focus on addressing changes in muscle strength, joint comfort and stiffness, fatigue, and mental alertness.
